Coming from the airport

From 19 January 2012 you can take the bus direct to and from Mechelen from Eindhoven and Charleroi airports. The new bus line operates daily: in the summer every two hours and in the winter every 2 and a half hours.
You should reserve your seat in advance on the website. Tickets are very inexpensive, starting at 7 euros, and return tickets are substantially discounted.
The bus runs on a daily basis from the low-cost airport in Eindhoven to Charleroi's low-cost airport, and back. It stops in Turnhout, Antwerp, Kontich, Mechelen, Leuven, Louvain-la-Neuve and Genappe on the way.

Getting to Mechelen by train:
At Brussels Airport the train station is on level -1. The Brussels Airport Express leaves up to four times an hour to Brussels North, Brussels Central And Brussels South (Midi). From there, there are trains to Mechelen at regular times.
As of 10 June 2012 there will be a direct train (8 minutes) from the airport to Mechelen.
Getting to Mechelen by bus:
At Brussels Airport the bus station is on level 0. De Lijn offers a number of direct bus routes to Mechelen.
Getting to Mechelen by (rental) car:
When you leave the car park at the airport, you immediately drive onto the motorway. Drive in the direction of Antwerp (E19) and take exit 10 ("Mechelen-Zuid") or exit 9 ("Mechelen-Noord"). It should take about 25 minutes.l

Getting to Mechelen by bus/train:
At Charleroi airport, you can buy a ticket that combines the route by bus to Charleroi-South with the route by train to Mechelen. The two ticket vending machines are outside the airport building at door number 2.
Getting to Mechelen by (rental) car:
When you leave the airport car park, take the E42 motorway in the direction of Brussels and then choose the N5 (in the direction of Waterloo) or the A54 in the direction of Brussels. When you reach Brussels take the ring road and take the E19 motorway towards Antwerp. Then take exit 10 ("Mechelen-Zuid") or exit 9 ("Mechelen-Noord"). It should take about 1 hour.

The small scale of Antwerp Airport means that you can gain a lot of time both on departure and on arrival. Thanks to the short walking distances, you can after all check in up to 20 minutes before your flight leaves. On arriving at Antwerp Airport, you can be out of the airport building in about 10 minutes.
Getting to Mechelen by bus and train:
Bus 14 will take you from Antwerp Airport to Antwerpen-Berchem train station in about 10 minutes. From there are numerous connections by train to Mechelen.
Getting to Mechelen by (rental) car:
Leaving the airport, turn right into Vosstraat. Turn left at the first roundabout, in to Deurnestraat. Then turn right into Antwerpsestraat. After about 500 m turn left into Jozef Hermanslei, after which turn right into Frans Van Dunlaan. Then you can drive onto the Antwerp ring road. Take the E19 in the direction of Brussels. Once in Mechelen take exit 10 (Mechelen-Zuid) or exit 9 (Mechelen-Noord).
