With two shops in the centre of Mechelen, Emiel is a household name in Mechelen. Having started life on the Vismarkt (Fish Market), one of the city's most attractive squares, back in the early 1930s, Emiel the fishmonger's has undergone a long evolution from fish shop to fish caterer.

From a period with more than 15 fish shops, several wholesale businesses and even an outlet on the docks, Vishandel Emiel is now one of the best-known names in the region for fresh fish and prepared fish dishes. Today Claire and Luc head up Vishandel Emiel. They are the fourth generation in a business that has always been passed down from daughter to daughter.
