The Twixt Water and Greenery Tour

Why not make this half-day coach trip part of your visit to Mechelen? You will spend a morning or afternoon in the watery Vaartland, just outside Mechelen, home to the Rupel and Zenne rivers, their canals and bridges. An experienced Scheldeland guide will accompany you on the coach via the villages of Heffen and Heindonk to the Hombeek plateau. Together you will be able to visit the picturesque skippers' village of Klein-Willebroek, a delightful spot for a canal-side stroll. Reminders of the past like the ancient lock and stately lock-house conjure up the atmosphere of bygone days. Then you can sit back and enjoy a local speciality at one of the many pleasant waterside cafés.

The coach will then take you under the Vredesbrug, the "iron and steel monster" bridge to which Wannes Van de Velde dedicated a song, and back to Mechelen via Leest and Hombeek. For your last stop, you can choose between a deer farm, a horse dairy and a whisky distillery.

After this relaxing country outing peppered with anecdotes, you'll be ready for the next part of your day in Mechelen.
