Rik Wouters Garden

The Rik Wouters Garden is a small city garden that opened on 29 May 2016. The garden is an ode to the stream and to Belgian painter Rik Wouters. Rik Wouters (Mechelen, 1882 - Amsterdam, 1916) came from a family of wood carvers from Mechelen. From 1912, he made a breakthrough with his paintings and sculptures in which he played with light and colour.

A small stream in the garden has been reopened: a long pond shows the previous course of the stream. In addition to the stream, there is a play area for young children, containing some small play elements. At the back of the garden there is a place to stay, with a sculpture garden containing replicas of sculptures by Rik Wouters.
